Preorder Entourage Season 3 Part 2

End of Season 4.. Some Thoughts

Posted by DramaForPresident on September 4th, 2007 filed in Uncategorized

So season 4 came, and left quickly. Was everyone satisfied? I personally believe Season 4 was the weakest of all the seasons so far, even tho there were some exceptional episodes. My biggest grief is how the show feels they can skip over very important details and later just mention them in passing. Two examples I can think of our Eric’s relationship with Sloane, and the Perfect 10 model from “My Maserati does 185″. It was mentioned this season that Eric kept calling her after that episode, and the only reason they weren’t together was because he got deported. I know that we’ve heard Doug Ellin say that he show isn’t suppose to be plot driven, but it doesn’t mean that they can skip over, or have the viewer assume a bunch of things. I also know, that for most viewers it doesn’t matter that 3 months past between the end episode Episode 1 of Season 4, and the beginning of Episode 2 of Season 4, but I think maybe the writing staff needs to slightly rethink their approach for Season 5.

Also, is it just me, or is TVweek’s “Podcast” with Doug Ellin the most useless shit ever? Ask some real fucking question lady…

More thoughts, and predictions coming soon.

  1. Whatever happened to the girl that turtle started dating in season 3 (her father owned the car shop). At the end of the season, it looked like Turtle was finally going to get a girl..then in season 4 she was NEVER mentioned again. I did not like that!

  2. Good season for me but not their best. I love the Walsh character and like how he had an expanded role. It just seemed some episodes were such a waste of time with no plot movement. In other seasons there were episodes like this but much much better.

  3. Easily the weakest episode ever… am I the only one who has thought of this plot hole:
How can Medellin suck THAT much and still get into Cannes? Cannes is a presitgous film festival, and judging by everyones reaction there is no way that it should have even gotten into the festival. Yea i also wondered about Turtle’s girlfriend. And now that we have to wait until next summer for new episodes really pisses me off. The seasons are way too short. I mean I don’t really see this show going much farther than like 8 seasons at most. I mean I love this show, probably my favorite, but 8 seasons a lot, most shows don’t get that far but the seasons are so short, we should either get a ton of more seasons or have the next few really be beefed up. C’mon HBO!

  4. thought this season as pretty awful. Silo? what the fuck? Aside from the bunny episode and a handful of others (i liked the premier, etc) i thought they completely shit the bed. As far as the “not plot driven” comment - am i wrong or is the show now driven by billy walsh and vince doing all of his movies? Sure there’s some anecdotal fun with turtle and drama, but the show is basically about eric’s career and walsh acting crazy (lots of fucking fun). Californication is funnier and better written. Plus there’s a trace of actual acting. Aside from Piven and maybe walsh the acting on entourage blows. The entire reason for watching it was because its light and funny, which i’m not sure you can say anymore. - and no, i’m not bothering to correct all the gramatical and spelling errors in the rant above.

  5. and to the orginal post - My Masarati does 185 was the first episode i had ever seen, and it remains my favorite. It’s light, funny, there are tits, and its void of any real consequences. Its really a shame that the show takes itself to seriously now. Like we really care about eric’s ability to manage anna farris, or ari’s kid getting into private school?

  6. I was very disappointed with this season. It has its moments but overall I was not impressed. Get back to Vince being a big movie star and all the trappings that go with that. More episodes like when they went to Las Vegas. Walsh is kind of a 5th wheel now imo. Hopefully season 5 is better.

  7. Kind of a weak season overall. I do like how the movie sucked. I know it sucks for them but if it is a big hit then where is there to go from there. It would have been the same thing we have seen before. Now we have to see what they are going to do after have a shit movie or atleast how they turn it to a good movie.

  8. You guys also have to realize that this is losely based off of Mark Whalberg’s life and when his movie We Owned the Night debuted at Cannes its got booed afterwards too. So that is something to think about.

  9. Doug Ellin said that it really isn’t based on Mark’s life anymore… It was at the beginning, but now they are far from it that the characters and story line is in a different place altogether.

  10. I agree with every comment and point made above. This show has been on an ever increasing downslide since the first season (although Season 3 was pretty bad ass). This season was way too short, no real progression was made, and the show is not The show is up for 7 Emmy nominations, and the viewer numbers have increased (mostly due to Sopranos now being off-air), but the writers better make an improvement in the direction of the show and the satire involved, or I feel it will soon see a dramatic drop-off in ratings.

  18. grow the fuck up please….thats what the show is doing, everyone is growing up…so maybe it is a tad bit important that we see eric getting a new client and vince now producing his own movies. if the show was just based on the sex-driven jokes and the aimless wit that the characters displayed it would become very tedious very quickly…so in turn, stop complaining about how you want to see this or you want to see that….if you dont like the story line which is basically trying to imitate life…then go watch a fucking cartoon.

  20. I’m sorry - we’re supposed to be looking for thematic and realistic excellence in Entourage now? This is exactly that we are complaining about. The show takes it self to seriously. Who the fuck cares if eric signs a new client? Who cares about character development? Sure some may be needed to keep it from getting stale, but come on. The primary goal of entourage is to be funny - all we’re saying is that some of this bullshit plot and character development is getting in the way.

And i disagree ademently about the sex driven jokes and aimless wit. With 12 half hour episodes a year, its hard for anything to get tedious quickly.

John bud king - take a report.

  21. I feel like it can be rectified…
It seems like post of the season was about how he DOES NOT, have a job, and although it is not practical that a bad movie was in Cannes, it made a stronger case for what is to come. Personally Vince needed to lose…

I.E. Plot wise, he wanted to do a movie, and pursued it like Scarface… A box office flop, but one of the most adorned films. Critics are just that critics… I feel they are going to play with that gesture.

As for the conflict I think it is great, Vince in the middle and Billy, and E, on the side duking it, especially with “Silo” maybe that will be their redemption.

Sure I was upset on the Turtle love story, but something tells me his is coming, they are just warming up Ferrera’s role. I feel he is seriously the most under rated actor on that cast. But they’ll make him shine when need be.

  23. Hey, Mike from comment 4… fuck you. There weren’t THAT many grammatical and spelling errors, jesus christ. No need to point that out and act all high and mighty dickhead. I’m guessing you’re that type of person who loves to point out minor flaws in people. It’s also probably why your girlfriend is also your right hand.

  24. Brandon - I was refering to my post. I wasn’t going to go back and re-read my post and fix everything. i didn’t really specify though - can see where you could get confused.

You really hate the ‘point out mistakes guy’ though huh. thats some vicsous shit.
